Product Overview First: Faster, Second: Multiple, Third: Charging!
USB 3.0 has a bandwidth of up to 5 Gbit/s. That makes possible a multiple of the transfer rates of USB 2.0. With this hub you can use the fast USB 3.0 for four devices. This is an active hub with the 5V power supply. USB 3.0 is downwardly compatible; it fits USB 2.0 cables and devices (with their transfer rates). The USB charge port ( 5 V, 2.4 A) meets the new USB battery charging specification (BC 1.2) and it can charge all the corresponding mobile devices such as smartphones, tablets, digital cameras and rechargeable batteries (i.e. power banks).

TekSpek Guides
Date Issued: 21st Oct 2008

You've probably read the USB Tekspek, and perhaps your intrigue, or product interest, has lead you to look up Firewire as well. The two are similar in some respects, particularly some of the products that use the two technologies. However, Firewire has its differences, which means it has both benefits and drawback when compared to USB. This Tekspek will look at Firewire and also look at it with respect to USB.

System Buses & Bandwidth
Date Issued: 21st Oct 2008

In computing terms, system buses are used to connect various components to the motherboard’s core logic and, often, to each other. Modern PCs run with a multitude of high-speed buses ranging from the interconnects between, say, the chipset and the CPU, graphics card, memory, and peripherals.

If you've used a computer for any duration of time you'll have come across the terms “kilobyte, megabyte, gigabyte” and so on. Then there's “kilobit, megabit and gigabit” to add a bit of confusion and to top it all off you've maybe heard or read terms like “gibibyte” on occasion.

4 Port Icy Box IB-AC611 USB 3.0 Hub with 5V, 2.4A USB Charge port is rated 3.7 out of 5 by 11.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Don't expect it to last Bought to use with a laptop on the go and expected to last as I thought it was a reputable brand, not so. It was used for the occasional data transfer between 2 hard drives. Had trouble betting a stable USB 3.0 connection unless I plug it in before startup. First the corner near the USB down port broke off whilst connecting to the laptop. Now the power connector has snapped off. Not my best buy from Scan and a brand I will be avoiding in the future.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Doesn't work properly We started buying these as we were unable to get hold of the 610 model. This model is pure rubbish in comparison. USB 3 hardware devices are either not seen or seen as USB 2 devices and therefore don't work properly. If you can't get the 610 model then look at getting a Startech one instead (ST4300USB3)

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Fell apart after about 6 months The USB 3 connector on the back of the device is held on by two small solder points. When plugging in the USB3 cable it all fell apart. Opened up the case to re-solder it and it's very cheap and nasty in there. Nice case, horrible internals.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good product This USB Hub is very nice for home users. Charging port has no data connection, just charging devices. Unfortunately I've got unit with annoying PSU. It's making whistling noise very often which I thing will make PSU faulty soon. The case of USB Hub is ok, aluminium looks nice. I never tried to use more than 2 usb sticks at once, but it was ok. I can honestly recommend this product.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good quality at a price Good USB3 hub, seems robust. had expected the fast charge port to be on the top but its the right-most socket. 1metre USB3 lead to PC included and Power supply is rated at 3.5 Amps more than adequate unless you fully load every port to max.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A well made hub. This is a neat small well made hub. it works, USB X4 with a dedicated charging port. The appx 1/3 metre cable supplied for the computer link is a USB 3 micro plug with a standard USB type A on the other end. This cable had an intermittent micro plug, as I have plenty of these, I used a better quality one. I think that was just bad luck. It also has a reasonable mains power supply to help with current distribution. Overall it's been very useful, but as someone else said, it needs feet, it now has has a set I fitted my self.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Brilliant little hub Very pleased with this - even smaller than it looks - the sockets on the side are quite close together but the one on the top is a great idea. Lightning fast as well. Both included USB cable and power supply cable are about 1.2m (4 ft!) long. Only slight niggle is that it could do with some rubber feet on the bottom.

Questions & Answers

is it usb connectable and how long is the usb 3 cable thanks

Asked by: simmo26
If you mean the connector from the device to the PC/Laptop then it is USB 3.0 Type A to micro B (which looks like a squashed letter B). Everything that connects to the device uses the Type A connector, whether USB 2 or 3.0 As I recall the cable provided is 1 meter long, but you can check with Scan directly.

Does this have a UK 3-pin 13A power adaptor?

Asked by: Richard7
The charger has a UK connector built-in and not a separate plug. Hope this helps
