Product Overview

Extra Connectivity

IB-AC6401 is a super speed USB 3.0 independent HUB. The slim design and integrated USB 3.0 cable make it perfect for Mac, PC or Notebooks on the go.

If you have insufficient USB slots you can enhance your device with four more. A 5 V power connection allows the use of an optional power supply (5 V / 2 A, not included) when devices with high power requirements are connected.

• This stylish aluminum hub turns a USB 3.0 port into a 4 lane highway - USB devices or even an external hard drive can be easily connected. An additional connection for a 5 V power supply allows the use of any amount of power hungry devices (power adapter not included).
• Like all our hubs the IB-6401 has the Plug & Play and Hot Swap ability. These enable the driver-free installation of the device and the rapid replacement of the devices during operation.
• The USB 3.0 Super Speed port allows for a data transfer rate of up to 5 Gbit/s. The LED gives you information about the status of the hub and therefore whether it gets enough power.

TekSpek Guides
Date Issued: 21st Oct 2008

You've probably read the USB Tekspek, and perhaps your intrigue, or product interest, has lead you to look up Firewire as well. The two are similar in some respects, particularly some of the products that use the two technologies. However, Firewire has its differences, which means it has both benefits and drawback when compared to USB. This Tekspek will look at Firewire and also look at it with respect to USB.

4 Port IB-AC6401 Icybox USB 3.0 Hub, 5V connection, Status LED is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 4.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Once again Beware!!!!! Although well made I was expecting it to come with a mains adaptor, but it didn't, I phoned Scan to enquire if they sold an adaptor but they don't, I tried to get one from local electronic shops but to no avail. If you purchase one make sure that you don't want it with mains use.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Solid and Compact USB Hub This hub has been incorporated in a telescope system to allow one cable to service several independent devices. The fixing in position was easily achieved as the case is metal, and reasonably "angular". The USB function has given no cause for concern. A good unit at a fair price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Neat solution for extra USB ports. After running short of USB ports on my MacBook (only two) I decided to give this Icybox a try and since then I have had no regrets. It is neat and tidy and works brilliantly so anyone who has thought about buying this wont be disappointed.

Does the IB-AC6401 support USB2.0 host ?

If this device is plugged into a USB2.0 socket, will it still work albeit at only USB2.0 speeds ?
Asked by: Bilbo
Good Morning, Yes, USB is backwards compatible so this should still work fine for you. Kind Regards,

What is the cable length?

I require a hub to sit on the desk and the base unit is under the desk, so I require a cable at least 80cm long. I realise the picture shows a short cable, but I know from experience that product pictures can be very deceiving.
Asked by: ScottG
The cable is 24 cms from the case to the USB plug.
