Scan FA7i Audio PC

Based upon our one of our most popular audio PC specifications, the 3XS FA7i is based around Intel's "Coffee Lake" Hexa-Core i7 8700 CPU with additional hyper-threading, giving a total of 6 physical and 6 additional virtual cores to work with. As with all of our audio systems, the models found in our ready to ship series are all tested and configured to ensure the widest compatibility possible with common studio software programs, and to ensure the smoothest running of all of your tools and applications.

During our initial in house validation phase we test with all of the popular audio sequencers including industry leaders such as Cubase, Pro Tool, Sonar, Studio One, Ableton, Bitwig, Reaper and FL Studio to ensure the widest compatibility straight out of the box, meaning that you set it up with your audio interface & software of choice and be ready to go with the absolute minimum of fuss.

TTo install your software on, we include a fast 250GB Samsung 860 EVO SSD, which comes with your OS on and is ideal for running your sequencer and projects off. Alongside the OS drive we also include an additional 1TB Seagate Barracuda mechanical drive for storage and sample libraries. If you wish to migrate over your old project drives or make sure you can add in additional storage in the future, the case has 6 more drive bays making it easy to expand accommodate any future expansion you wish to carry out.

The system has 16GB of Corsair memory included, which we find is ample for a lot of production duties carried out on this level of machine, but we also make sure to leave two more slots free in case of future upgrade plans should you find yourself needing more in a few years time.

This i7 based configuration is the higher powered option amongst our two F-Series setups and the specification lends itself well to those artists who are working fully in the box studios where full in the box production is taking place with more emphasis on sound design with complex layers and large channel counts. As with all of our studio based systems the performance to noise level is a key concern, where we always strive to ensure we get the maximum amount of performance with the least amount of disruptive system noise through careful component consideration.

Detailed Overview

Powerful Processing

A fast CPU translates to higher VST counts along with a smoother, more responsive experience whist you work. The FA7i includes a powerful Intel Core i7 8700 which has six cores running at 3.2GHz with a 4.6GHz turbo that delivers maximum performance when you need it.

Testing & Validation

By testing & validating with all of the major sequencers during the system design phase, we aim to ensure all the teething issues are worked out well before you receive it. This will help to ensure you get setup as smothly as possible and keep you productive by ensuring a great day to day experience.

Extremely Quiet

Low noise levels are cruical in the studio enviroment where recording may be taking place, so all of our 3XS studio machines are designed around low noise components and quiet cases. This will help to ensure that you can mix and produce without distractions.

Lightning Fast Storage

Nobody likes waiting for their applications to load, so the FA7i includes an SSD instead of an old fashioned HDD. SSDs use sold-state memory, so you can boot into Windows, load applications and projects in a fraction of the time of a mechanical HDD.

Professionally Built PCs vs Self-Built

Anyone can build a PC, so what really makes the difference between any old PC and a 3XS PC? For starters, our team has been designing and building PCs for more than 20 years, so we have a huge amount of experience in building highly reliable systems that deliver the most performance for your budget. These are the benefits you receive when buying a professionally built 3XS system versus building a system yourself.

No Compatibility Headaches

It can take weeks to research the right combination of components, not just to ensure you get the most bang for your buck but to minimise the chance of one component being incompatible with another. Whether you buy a system from our configurator or a custom spec system our engineers will do all this hard work for you, ensuring that when your system is delivered it performs flawlessly.

Intensively Tested

Building a PC only takes a few hours, but installing all the software and making sure that everything is configured properly and that your software runs stably takes up a huge amount of time. By ordering a 3XS system our engineers take this painful process away, as all our systems undergo a strenuous Quality Control procedure which includes updating Windows, installing the latest drivers and motherboard BIOS. Overclocked systems receive an additional 24 hour burn-in test to ensure stability.

Peace of Mind

Unfortunately PC components do occasionally fail, and when this happens if you’ve built your PC yourself you’re on your own. However, with a professionally built Scan 3XS system you’re no longer alone. Our technical support team is available 7 days a week, from 9am to 10pm Mon - Fri, 10am to 6pm on Saturdays and 10am to 4pm on Sundays. Click here for more info on how to get technical support for your 3XS system.

If our support team is unable to fix your system remotely and it’s still under warranty we’ll either send out an engineer to visit your home or office or repair it or have it repaired in our state of the art factory in Lancashire.

A Work of Art

We don't just build PCs in our state-of-the-art factory, we craft them. For instance, we route and tidy all the cables around the sides of the case. This not only makes your PC look great and easier to upgrade in the future, but eases airflow through the case resulting in a cooler and quieter PC. In addition, we can customise your PC for you, not just the components inside but also its appearance, so if you fancy a PC in an unusual shape or colour we look forward to hearing from you.

Widely Acclaimed

Our 3XS PCs have won hundreds of awards in the press from publications such as Custom PC, Develop3D, Expert Reviews, HEXUS, PC Gamer and PC Pro. In addition 3XS has won Custom PC’s annual Dream PC competition every year it has run since 2007. You can read all our reviews here plus customer reviews on the configurator.

Rapid Delivery

Sometimes you just need a system right now. Maybe your existing system has kicked the bucket or you’ve found that your old workhorse can’t cope with the latest game or application you just bought. F-series systems are pre-built and tested in our factory, so can be collected same day or delivered next-day to your home or office.

Warranty & Technical Support

Another key difference is that all Scan 3XS Custom Series PCs are covered by our Premium 3 Year Warranty. This means that if your system develops a fault in its first year we can send an engineer to your home or office to repair it. In the remaining two years of the warranty we'll still repair or replace any faulty parts, but do this from our state of the art factory in Lancashire. 3XS FA7i Audio Workstation, Intel Core i7 8700 "Coffee Lake", 16GB DDR4, 250GB SSD, 1TB, Win 10 is rated 5.0 out of 5 by 3.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great system for in the box music production I am using Cubase 9 Pro with a Steinberg UR 22mkII Audio interface. The 3XS FA7i Audio Workstation allows me to get latency really low, around 9 milliseconds. I have projects with multiple Orchestral samples and complex synth patches which play with very low CPU usage so there is plenty of headroom for in the box production. The quality of the build is exceptional and the setup was very easy. I have two screens, one plugged into the HDMI socket, the other (a VGA screen) plugged into the display port via a VGA to DisplayPort adapter. It all works really well. It would be nice to have a couple of extra USB ports but this is solved with powered USB splitter boxes.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Everything I wanted When my aged music studio PC died I knew it was time to take a good look at what was around. Having done a fair amount of research I felt Scan offered me what I required in a new DAW PC. I wasn't disappointed. Beautifully made and is everything that I'd hoped for, running Cubase and multiple plug ins with ease and it's so so quiet. i'd highly recommend this PC and the fantastic service that went with it

Questions & Answers

64 bit windows

Hi I’m interested in this workstation. I’m still using a few 32 bit plugins within my daw. My current laptop has both 32 bit and 64 bit windows and I bridge the plugins using j bridge. Will I be able to do the same with this system and also the copy of Windows it comes with Regards kirk
Asked by: Kirk
Hi, J-bridge will still work, although from experience it will be the most unstable part of the system. It’s been well over a decade since we got our first 64 OS, so whilst I understand the wish to keep tried and tested plugs around, by this stage any company worth its salt has moved to 64bit plugs a long time ago. So the concern is that any code brought across that is 32bit is unlikely to have been tuned and optimized for newer OS builds. I’d be tempted to say that unless it (the plugin in question) does something 100% unique, I’d looks around for something newer and more efficient. I hope this helps. Kind regards,

Integrated graphics card

How fast is the graphics card?will it play complex games! And can another graphics card be used if needed. Thanks
Asked by: Duck1
This PC has Intel integrated graphics in the CPU which is only suitable for Windows applications and basic games. You could add a graphics card yourself, alternatively we suggest looking at our Pro Audio configurators where you can see a range of workstations which can support a graphics card:
