PC monitor manufacturers tend to focus on a particular buzzword or acronym almost every year. In the past, we have been treated to HD (high definition), denoting the screen is capable of running a minimum 720p resolution.

Choosing a monitor is not an easy decision to make, and not just because of the large number of variations in resolution, refresh rates, sizes and connectivity options. There are also varying panel technologies used to form each display that need to be considered. These panel technologies can be grouped into three broad categories which cover the vast majority of monitors sold in the consumer market.

34" Acer Nitro XV340CK UltraWide Monitor, IPS, 3440x1440, 144Hz, 1ms, FreeSync, HDR, 100M:1, 250cd/m², HDMI/DP is rated 5.0 out of 5 by 2.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worth the expense, you wont be disappointed After spending years gaming on a much smaller monitor with a low refresh rate it was time to upgrade and this fitted the bill perfectly. Quite solid construction and the quality seems decent enough. Plugged it in and once I'd set the input source on the monitor the only other change neccessary was to set the new resolution. GSync worked automatically and the performance is great in games, No screen tearing, no blur and the image is crystal clear with very good colour definition. For normal offic type work the colour definition is very good however could do with being a little brighter at times however this is probably adjustable using the widget software you can download from the Acer website which allows alteration of brightness/contrast etc from an app in addition to the OSD menu on the monitor. I would definately recommend this monitor if you are a gaming first/working second type of user.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Acer have just laid down a new marker! I've been searching for an ultra wide, 144hz, 30+ inch monitor with IPS for a long time and there is nothing really on the market at the moment for less than £750 and the monitor I was keeping an eye on was a grand all but a penny.... Most of us have got a budget and I couldn't justify spending a thousand pounds on a monitor. Then Acer came out with this 'little' beauty! I don't profess to being a monitor connoisseur but I have seen many video reviews and read many articles on lots of monitors so I knew what I was after and what to look out for. Out the box, it's easy to set up with the stand being easy to clip to the monitor and to insert the 4 small screws... The stand is made of metal and plastic and is robust and sturdy. The screen is a matt black finish which helps stop glare. And unless I'm blind I really couldn't see any backlight bleed either. Setting up is straight forward - plugged in and settings were auto 3440x1440. I have an Nvidia card and was able to set up Gsync although this is a FreeSync monitor and works extremely well. I will nitpick and say the settings buttons are fiddly at the back of the monitor but it's just a case of getting used to what buttons do what - and on a plus the on/off button has a 'nipple' so you know exactly what button to press to turn on/off. The other nitpick is the power cable, it could have been a bit longer (4ft/120cm) but was long enough for me but be aware if your pc is wall mounted etc. But they're the only negatives I can think of the short time I have had this monitor. There are no dead pixels either....and lastly, coming from having a 60hz monitor to this 144hz and gaming it makes sooo much difference! So smooth, so responsive! The bezel is ultra thin as well. Yes, it's still a hefty wedge of cash, but if you can push yourself that bit extra and want an ultra wide, 144hz and want IPS for the richer colours then go for it....Why spend £1,000 when you can spend under £700 for a quality monitor.
