Choosing a monitor is not an easy decision to make, and not just because of the large number of variations in resolution, refresh rates, sizes and connectivity options. There are also varying panel technologies used to form each display that need to be considered. These panel technologies can be grouped into three broad categories which cover the vast majority of monitors sold in the consumer market.

As you’ll all likely know by now, DVI is the current standard for connection of a PC or other display generator to a digital display output. You’ll recognise the multi-pin connector and know that almost all modern LCD displays have the corresponding input connector, for feeding from your PC. But do you know how DVI works? This TekSpek seeks to teach you how.

Whether the broadcasters are going HD or not, TV sets and projectors are arriving thick and fast which claim to support higher resolutions than regular telly. There’s a lot more to High Definition than just having the ability to run your screen at the right resolution. With more than one type of connection available, and the thorny subject of signal encryption to contend with, just because your monitor and graphics are capable of 1,920 x 1,080 or better does not necessarily mean they will be able to display HDTV in all its glory.

Rated 5 out of 5 by 5 reviewers.
Rated 5 out of 5 by Very good 27" screen For a 1080p screen for a cheap price, I have to say, it is a very nice screen. I had an Acer 27" for a while and this one is better. I would recommend this screen for anyone on a tight budget. 20 April 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by good picture really easy to set up, good quality product with vibrant colours and good conectivity 17 April 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Simply Outstanding! Bought this monitor as an upgrade from my 22" Iiyama E2273HDS after an evil friend pointed out that it was a little small. I had nothing but love for it but he had already planted his evil seed. Boom, so I bought this monitor and I can tell you straight away that the colours on this VA panel kick the shnizz out of my trusty Iiyama TN panel. A lot of people moan about 1080p on a 27" monitor but I can't see anything wrong with it, although I wouldn't go any bigger than 27" at 1080p. I sit about 2 feet away and it's stunning. Pros: Vivid Colours, True Blacks, No Ghosting, No Backlight Bleed, No Dead Pixels. Cons: It wasn't free and as I'm married I now have to buy my wife something of equal or greater value. 30 August 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Solid product at a very competitive price I'll keep this short & sweet, I'm not a fan of the low pixel density (a fact of every 27" 1080p monitor) but other than that this is a very nice product. The colours were generally very good (to the untrained, yet relatively picky eye) & the viewing angles no problem at all. The colours are definitely a little step up from a standard TN panel. I didn't see anything in the way of input lag or blur, but then I didn't try out too much fast-paced action myself which leaves me in a position to at least say there's no obvious problem there. Bottom line: For a 27" 1080p monitor you should look no further unless you want a higher resolution or refresh rate, both of which will cost you an extra £100+. For ~£165 this is a good purchase. 13 August 2014
