Whether the broadcasters are going HD or not, TV sets and projectors are arriving thick and fast which claim to support higher resolutions than regular telly. But HDTV is far from just one standard – it incorporates a couple of different resolutions, two different scanning modes, and a number of different frame rates. In this article, we present a guide to what all the terms actually mean.

There’s a lot more to High Definition than just having the ability to run your screen at the right resolution. With more than one type of connection available, and the thorny subject of signal encryption to contend with, just because your monitor and graphics are capable of 1,920 x 1,080 or better does not necessarily mean they will be able to display HDTV in all its glory.

27" ASUS ROG Strix XG27UQ Gaming Monitor, IPS, 3840x2160, 144Hz, 1ms, HDR, 1000:1, 400cd/m², HDMI/DP, G-SYNC is rated 3.6 out of 5 by 5.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great product but lacking detail in some area's. This monitor is a great overall. There are not many monitors that can boast 4k and a 144hz screen including and IPS panal. The brightness is great, especially the depth and contrast of colours. I have this monitor next to my other LG 4k monitor and the depth of colour is noticble. However the HDR is not very impactful and actually makes a more negative experience, the out of the box settings are near enough good enough. I still compare this to my secondary 4k monitor which even with HDR enabled the visual is much better on this Asus monitor. However, the claggy UI and cheap plastic finish on such an expensive monitor do make it a dissapointment. These are finishing touches I beleive are just lazy for a manufacturer. This monitor follows that "gamer" vibe, where as I normally prefer a more minimalistic asthetic on my equipment. A greater attention to the finer details, would have made this a much better finished product, as I was highly tempted to return and buy my originally selected monitor, as it came out shortly after I purchased this one, but didn't want to go through the process of returning it, as I am overall very happy with my monitor minor the few selected negatives i'm not happy with.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent product. I got what was dreaming of. 4K up to 144Hz with HDR. Unfortunately my 1080ti doesn’t support this and I am limited to 120Hz. I need to upgrade to a 2080ti soon. That’s why 4 stars for value for money. Otherwise the image quality is jaw dropping. No dead pixels or defects. An investment for years to come.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from shockingly bad have a lg 4k 60hz and this 4k 144hz. the other monitor is 2 years old and was almost half the price.if i did not have the other monitor or a oled main tv i would probably not notice. ths screen is not sharp on image as 4k is the colour pop but images next to my old screen is way bad. it seems to smooth everything off? to the extend some features on images as small s hey are simply arent there... but then same image with the other monitor is worlds better. im very concerned about this. know what 4k looks like before buying! very dissapointed

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Just not worth it I wanted a 4K monitor with high refresh rate, which at the time of buying were not cheap! This was the best I could afford. The image is good, but there a a few issues which mean I would not recommend this monitor. The main gripe is the extent of the back-light bleed from all four corners of the screen. It's really bad and quite noticeable when darker images are being displayed. For the price of this monitor I would have expected far superior quality. In my experience, look elsewhere and do not buy this monitor.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wow If you have the money to buy this then don't hesitate. It's butter smooth and the colours are fantastic..... absolutely crystal clear display. It's changed my gaming experience no end! Wondering why I held off so long buying a 4k monitor now
