Choosing a monitor is not an easy decision to make, and not just because of the large number of variations in resolution, refresh rates, sizes and connectivity options. There are also varying panel technologies used to form each display that need to be considered. These panel technologies can be grouped into three broad categories which cover the vast majority of monitors sold in the consumer market.

27" ASUS PG279Q ROG Swift 165Hz Nvidia G-Sync 2K, IPS Monitor, 2560x1440 4ms, 1000:1, DP/HDMI/2x USB 3.0 Black Red is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 58.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent! Wow, really like the look of this monitor compared to my older 27" one, the colours just jump out at me and the quality of the image is really crisp. The only issue I have is the price (don't we all) it was a little more than I wanted to spend, but boy it is well worth the money. Now I just need to upgrade my PC to make more use of this, as I bought it to last me for the next 5 years! Scan - as usual really fast and great service!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The best gaming monitor I have used so far I've had a huge variety of PC monitors ranging from 60Hz to 240Hz, 1080p to 4K, 21.5" to 32" curved and I can honestly say that for the value:performance ratio this is STILL THE BEST monitor you can buy for the money. Seriously - you will not be disappointed with this product!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from If you are not gaming at 144hz or above you are seriously missing out! When my friends tell me they are buying a new gaming monitor I always ask them to consider the games they play, do they need to maintain high FPS, can your current GPU push and maintain 120+ FPS, what resolution are you upgrading from, what graphic quality do you expect, do you need to also upgrade your GPU? For me, I play a wide variety of game FPS, RTS RPG ect... so would benefit from higher FPS in some cases. I will not need to upgrade my GPU as I currently have a GTX 1080 which is more than a capable. My old monitor was an 2560x1080 ultra-wide so an increase in vertical pixels would be nice too. Let's get the negatives out of the way first. It's expensive for a monitor of this size and resolution, especially when you consider that the only reason for it being such a high price is because of GSYNC. That said, as long as you have a compatible Nvidia GPU that can push and maintain high FPS, the gaming experience is amazing. I wouldn't expect any less since you do pay a premium for GSYNC and its a product from ASUS. The IPS panel is excellent, colours look fantastic (with some minor modification in the settings), no ghosting and no back light bleed. Note with the IPS panel, you trade refresh time for better picture quality for compared to ASUS's equivalent TN monitor. ASUS have done well to have a low profile monitor that doesn't scream 'I AM A GAMING MONITOR LOOK AT MY RGB AND FUTURISTIC ALIEN DESIGN' compared to some 'gaming' focused monitors out there. I have my panel mounted on the wall, mainly to maintain a large area of free space on my desk, but the stand that it comes with is extremely well built (its a shame it just kept in the box). Overall, for me this is an excellent monitor and a much welcomed addition to my setup. For you consider answering the questions at the top of this review as your mileage and budget may vary.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great monitor! I rarely write reviews. But feel I had to for this monitor. Doing hours upon hours of research for this monitor, I found that for every good thing people had to say there were equal amounts of bad. All ranging from dead, stuck pixels and the like, to excessive backlight bleed. I thought though that this monitor ticked all the boxes and I would go ahead and purchase one to find out myself. I found a B-grade PG279Q on Overclockers and purchased it (a mistake I’ll never make again). I was expecting at least one issue being B-grade, and I found one. There was some sort of dirt behind the screen that I couldn’t get rid of, and was extremely distracting whilst gaming. So I returned it and got a brand new model from SCAN. And this brand new model is near perfect! No dead or stuck pixels. There is a tiny amount of backlight bleed in the top right corner which I can live with and very minimal IPS glow (that I can tell of). After reading all the horror stories about the “panel lottery” (which may be true, especially with this model), I am glad I bit the bullet and got this monitor. It is a nice looking bit of kit, the high refresh rate and G-sync is a dream (especially coming from a 60Hz TV setup), and the IPS panel colours are lovely. So overall, I’d highly recommend this monitor to anyone who, like me, had their eye on this monitor, but was on the fence due to some negative things said about it.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Ruined by defects and faults and terrible support A functionally excellent monitor, except I'm yet to find one that is better than flawed after having 5! The first had light bleed in bottom corners, but I put up with it until an insect got under the screen. £700 for bad seals? That RMA resulted in a refurbished unit which also had light bleed and, guess, what? Another insect got in. The next RMA resulted in a refurbished unit which had 3 damaged/burned out spots and 2 dead pixels. The next RMA resulted in another refurb with terrible image retention. The next RMA doesn't even accept a signal from DP or HDMI. I'm waiting on response from Asus now, but I assume I will simply get sent another defective refurb that they hope I will accept. Too late now to get a refund.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from IPS glow sucks Have IPS glow in top right corner which sucks, for this kind of money the QC is terrible, should have listened to the general advice to avoid these monitors. Probably the worst purchase I have ever made considering the money.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from SO SO SMOOTH!! I have been considering buying a high refresh rate g-sync 2560 x 1440 monitor for a while now. I previously had a LGUC98 34 inch Ultra Wide monitor which was unbelievably good for immersion, but at just 60hz, not the pinnacle of online competitive gaming. This screen feels expensive, the build, the design, the internal menu system, the fantastic stand, you feel like you are buying a £700 monitor. A special mention has to go the stand, you can literally have the monitor in every position you could possibly want to (including vertically). But what really matters? The experience. The gaming experience on this thing is second to none. The 144hz refresh rate (can be over clocked to 165hz) along with g-sync capabilities for all you Ge Force GPU owners makes this screen the best of the best. This thing is smooth and I mean smooth. Screen tearing? Thing of the past. I have played Battlefield 1, Overwatch, Fortnite, Prey , Counter Strike Global Offensive on this screen and they all look and feel amazing. With a 2560 x 1440 resolution, the games look super sharp, as you'd expect. However, its the 144hz that take the experience to the next level. The response time and the clarity when you spin 180 degrees and start shooting someone is something that truly never becomes tiresome. Its always going to be a big commitment to spend £700 on a gaming monitor. I know I contemplated it for weeks. My advice? Do it. You'll never go back. My ONLY negative in relation to this screen is the back light bleed, particularly in the bottom right corner. In all fairness, I can only notice it when on a black/ dark loading screen or playing a particularly low light map on a game. However, for £700, you'd expect that to have been eliminated. Its definitely not noticeable enough to ruin your immersion, but it can be a bit annoying at times. Overall, I thoroughly endorse this monitor.

Display Port

I'm interested to buy this monitor but am unsure if my Geforce gtx 690 graphics card which has a micro display port connector, can a micro dp to dp adapter be used?
Asked by: HEO2
I'm not 100% if that would work, however I can say that if you are looking at buying this monitor then you would need a decent PC for the resolution / refresh rate - I have a i7-4770 and a GTX 1080 and it only just manages decent frames (depending on the game of course). Sorry it's not the answer you want (someone else maybe can help) but it's a consideration you need to think about.

Is this monitor 3D? Is it worth the extra cost?

Is it 3D? The other, cheaper ASUS ROG model seems to be. This one isn't marked as having it, however. I noticed this one is IPS as well, unlike the other ASUS ROG model on Scan. Is it worth the £200 extra? The 4K one seems to be the same price, also. (Although, it is only 60Hz and 4ms.) I definitely want a G-Sync monitor and I have heard the ASUS ROG swift series is up there with the best. Its just a quest of which one to go with.
Asked by: PcGamingRig
It is not 3D. IPS really adds more depth to color. Strongly recommend it. 4K would not really be noticeable with this size of the screen. But also harder to achieve a constant 60 fps, let alone abusing the 144 Hz. I made the choice of spending the extra cash for IPS after looking at reviews on youtube. If your spending x amount of cash on monitor, might as well chip in a little more for more vibrant graphics. After just getting off tomb raider on very high settings, I am really happy I went with this monitor.

Is there a dead/stuck pixel policy for this monitor?

If there's a bad pixel on this monitor, will Scan replace it, or do I need to contact Asus? Will Scan/Asus replace it for even 1 bad pixel or does there have to be a minimum amount?
Asked by: pizza
Even if there's a policy in place, I wouldn't trust Asus support at all. I've had terrible replacement units.
