Choosing a monitor is not an easy decision to make, and not just because of the large number of variations in resolution, refresh rates, sizes and connectivity options. There are also varying panel technologies used to form each display that need to be considered. These panel technologies can be grouped into three broad categories which cover the vast majority of monitors sold in the consumer market.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 1st Impressions Ordered this monitor from Scan. I'd already done a fair bit of research in the area, and Scan dropped the price of this screen significantly from the screen I was going to get (Asus P279Q), so I went for it. Service from Scan was excellent, the order was shipped almost immediately and arrived safely the next day. This screen is excellent. Fantastic display, very customisable to individual preferences, and menu is very easy to navigate. Also has presets for specific games if you are THAT picky. At delivery, I was only able to use it with my very ageing rig and my Radeon 5870 graphics card. Even so, the switch from my previous TN panel to the IPS was a treat to behold. Colours so much more vibrant and life-like (Witcher 3 for example). I bought a new rig and am now running this display with a Geforce GTX 1080Ti. Changing the refresh rate up to the maximum 165Hz and engaging G-Sync was very easy. A lot of my friends questioned whether I would really see a difference between 60Hz and 165Hz - and I have to say the answer is emphatically YES! From my research, there was a lot being made about the IPS panels suffering from input lag compared to TN panels - but I honestly can't tell the difference. Screen works beautifully with my new rig. Buttery smoothness in Overwatch on full detail. Backlight bleed is minimal. Image quality is excellent. Haven't really had the chance to test anything else yet, as I'm still absorbed in OW and Witcher 3! Very happy with my purchase!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from what a great piece of hardware I struggled very long to get a decent gaming monitor, xb321hk, x34a, pg279q and finally this 271hu. honestly unless you are fielding a 2x1080 SLI 4k is out. so that leaves the 3 other monitors. x34a while looks sexy the prohibitively high price puts that out (even though it was painful to say bye) so pg279q and this 271hu. in all the reviews you read out there, they are essentially the same specs but just different make and design. i cant say for the 279q but 271hu is very well made and sturdy. i was lucky that my piece has no BLB issues (none that i can visibly tell) and it comes in much cheaper than the 279q. so why not this?! unless you're a hardcore asus fan, just go for the cheaper one thats just as good

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent performer, well worth the money This was a significant upgrade from my previous 24" monitor to run with a GTX1070 on a new gaming PC and it hasn't disappointed. Securely packed and delivered well, it was easy enough to install the stand and get everything plugged in - it comes with the right DP cable to get up and running with Gsync straight away. No backlight bleed and no dead pixels this is a great bit of kit and it's performance in games has been stand out. I got this to coincide with the release of Mass Effect Andromeda and everything looks very shiny indeed! Great visual angles with the IPS panel, haven't noticed any ghosting in shooters or slow down in other games and the Gsync clearly helps smooth things out. Looks great too, the gaming styling is not too OTT. Good weighty stand and very stable. The UI is ok - its a little hard to navigate but its perfectly useable and I don't make frequent changes to bother about it. The preset effects make everything a bit gloomy but brightness and colour calibration are well worth it. Recommend a calibration website to get it just right. The only issue I had was with sound where my external speakers clashed with the internal monitor ones and developed a whine - after a myriad of changes I found my sound card and video card settings were not in sync so a simple correction but the habit of DP to pick up sound settings every time can mean stereo and 5.1 sound get a bit mixed up. Just one to bear in mind if the same thing happens. The speakers on the monitor are weak but I don't think people buy these for the sound so I wouldn't deduct any points there. All round the best monitor I have used. Brilliant buy. And worth the not inconsiderable expense. Eye heaven. What's not to like.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Simply stunning After having a bad experience with an Asus PG278QR monitor which I got a refund for I decided to take the plunge and go for this Acer monitor instead due to the price cut. I have read all the horror reports about back light bleed mainly for the Asus PG279Q and was worried this would be the same for the Acer version that uses the same panel. Well what can I say...this monitor is amazing! The viewing angles are incredible with all the colours being vibrant and images very sharp and gaming on the monitor is breathtaking. Amazingly this is £150 cheaper than the Asus PG279Q and the monitor I got has no backlight bleed and no dead pixels whatsoever. I may have been lucky but I cannot fault this monitor in any way. The only let down I had was that there was a missing HDMI cable in the box. This is no fault of Scan.co.uk and they sent me out a replacement cable immediately which just shows their wonderful customer service. Buy this monitor now and you will not regret it!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best upgrade ever Id been using a few tv screen for the past 6 years and they werent even true 1920x1080 were some strange 1766x992 and pretty sure it wasnt even 60Hz So going to 1440p everything just looks beautiful I can still run games on high settings on my 680 4Gb but upgrading soon so I can truly appreciate the screen. the 145Hz is nice havent tried to overclock it to 165Hz with the os of the screen but apparently it increased response time? Some people say the asus on screen setting menu is nicer but how often are you really going to fiddle with it I was worried about dead pixels and glow but didnt get any defects with this monitor which I think is mainly due to when you do get a defect youre more likely to write a review stating that and now if its perfect Pros - IPS gsync easy to navigate os thin bezel Cheaper than the asus Cons - Id never had to mount a screen on its stand before and it felt a bit precarious doing it by myself so recommend that you do it with two.

Questions & Answers

Contrast

Hello, I've read on some reviews of this panel that the contrast is only 1000:1, but it shows 100,000,000:1 on the description here? Just want to double check before I decide to buy or not as have read that the blacks can appear washed out and greyish...
Asked by: MallicXIII
I can't comment on the numbers as I can't remember off the top of my head. What I can say is that I haven't experienced "washed out" blacks with this screen. I switched from a TN panel (which are known for "washed out" images) - so it's possible I might not be as sensitive to it as other previous IPS owners. But for me, Witcher 3 for example was a real treat. Really deep blacks and vibrant colours. You just have to set it up correctly (there are a few videos on Youtube which helped me with this).

Connection port

Hello. Dose it have a display port input ? because I see only usb and HDMI in description. Thx.
Asked by: Vagner
Yes it does. Display port 1.2 is on the back of the screen. I'm running it connected to a Gigabyte Aorus 1080Ti, and no problems whatsoever.

Does this monitor have a screen coating (ex:anti-glare)

I would like to know whether this monitor has any screen coating. Is the panel glossy?
