Rated 5 out of 5 by HenryF A noticeable improvement on a regular SSD
Thought I'd give one of these a go as my new motherboard came with the relevant slot and I'm glad I did.
When tested, sequential read/write speeds were around the 1200mbps mark compared to the SSD I took out that had readings of 500mbps.
I'm not going to say this has knocked tens of seconds off my boot time as I was already getting a good boot time with Windows 10 64bit on my original SSD but what I am noticing is how much quicker large programs are to launch and settle...that's where I'm seeing the jump.
I'm not a PC gamer so I can't comment on the difference for game loading etc.
Installation was easy; BIOS saw it straight away and Win10 was happy to install to it.
Not overly expensive for the performance difference and a bonus that you can forget all about which SATA port your boot disk was plugged into when moving your board to another case for instance.

Rated 4 out of 5 by anotheruser Blisteringly fast, but too cutting edge with several issues.
So like a few people I have made the choice to upgrade to skylake as a result of lower prices, but am now regretting that decision for a number of reasons.
With regard to this Samsung sm951 m.2 NVMe SSD I had the following issues -
1. It’s not as fast as advertised, on high end board/s and i7 6700k I only saw the following figures via CrystalDiskMark - Sequential Read 1750MB/s, Write 1250MB/s and 4K r/w were 52MB/s and 341MB/s - so still vastly superior to ANY Sata based SSD.
2. Almost all of my SSD tools would not see the NVMe based device, I use Acronis for imaging and PartedMagic for factory resetting before installing windows etc. I eventually got Acronis working by creating a WInPE based USB recovery stick. But no Linux tool I could find would touch the NVMe drive to factory reset it, like I can do with PartedMagic on any Sata based SSD.
3. Samsung Magician doesn’t recognised the drive, which is complete and utter FAIL on Samsung's part, as it can see the sm950pro drive which is essentially the same part, just slower. That and the DOS utility doesn’t see it, on that subject Samsung still need to fix their DOS utility so it displays correctly on PCIe cards.
4. I testing the SM951 in three different Intel Z170 based boards (Asus, MSi & Gigabyte), and in all of them it add 5-10 seconds to the boot time. How can a drive that’s faster than my old Samsung 840 EVO be slower to boot. I am guessing this is yet another total FAIL on the part of Intel's with the Z170 chipset.
So in a nutshell, it’s brilliant drive let down by several direct and indirect issues.

All I can say about this is WOW it is screamingly fast easy to install and great value for money just wish it was 1TB.
Once installed I ran some tests and it was topping out on 2.3 GB per sec so either my software is duff or its even faster then specified.
Makes a pc boot like a tablet. Truly amazing!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by EngineerFatherof4 Hardware great! Figuring out how to use it is more difficult
This comes with no docs. The Asus motherboard has little mention of the slot. So physical installation takes a bit of thinking and surfing.
Then getting Windows 10 to boot from it when there are SATA devices also in the system was problematic. Disconnected SATA and installed Windows before reconnecting SATA, not ideal for spreading partitions across devices.....
So hardware might be good but BIOS and OS support is a bit immature.
Boots really quickly now.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Redmozzy Very fast and a great price
This is one fast drive as long as you have a motherboard that can take full advantage of it. I've fitted it to my Asus Z97-K which doesn't give me the full bandwidth this drive can handle but when so, it's noticeably faster than a SATA drive. From post to login take under 4 seconds with Windows 10
