Date Issued: 15th May 2015

Choosing a monitor is not an easy decision to make, and not just because of the large number of variations in resolution, refresh rates, sizes and connectivity options. There are also varying panel technologies used to form each display that need to be considered. These panel technologies can be grouped into three broad categories which cover the vast majority of monitors sold in the consumer market.

NVIDIA G-Sync
NVIDIA G-Sync
Date Issued: 17th Dec 2013

G-SYNC works in a surprisingly simple way - it calculates how long the present frame takes to compute and then, crucially, varies the refresh rate of the monitor to match. It works between a minimum of 33.3ms (30fps) and the maximum supported refresh of the display. The key takeaway here is that the graphics card and monitor are both synced up to one another - the monitor doesn't have the limitations imposed by a rigid, fixed-rate scanning routine.

Whether the broadcasters are going HD or not, TV sets and projectors are arriving thick and fast which claim to support higher resolutions than regular telly. But HDTV is far from just one standard – it incorporates a couple of different resolutions, two different scanning modes, and a number of different frame rates. In this article, we present a guide to what all the terms actually mean.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Awesome Awesome monitor. Excites comment in the office when unveiled. 02 April 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great item, great service from Scan This is a great monitor from the price. I need a good resolution for professional retouching, and although it isn't up to the standard of the (much) pricier Apple Thunderbolt display, it does a great job. One added advantage over the Thunderbolt it the ability to turn it 90 degrees, which is very useful when working on portrait images and full-length shots. It works seamlessly with my Mac, where (using El Capitan) I can arrange the position in conjunction with my Macbook Pro screen, to work between the two as I wish. 29 March 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Fantastic WQHD monitor for an unusual size This monitor is amongst the tiniest of the WQHD resolution range, which gives an overall "Retina" feeling of the graphics onscreen. Excellent quality, the only shortcomings being the touch-sensitive buttons for power-switch (the OSD ones are designed the same ways, but I don't mind) and the lack of DVI connectivity, which is compensated by the presence of a miniDP-DP cable. Color with factory settings is excellent and can be even enhanced for colorimetric nerds. Very limited lag for gaming, and reasonable glow considering this is an IPS monitor. The stand has a simplet yet modern look, and allow all kinds of movements including the tilting into portrait display. 15 February 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by An excellent monitor and a great price from Scan All round excellent monitor: great performance, clean design; adjustable stand and portrait option work very well. I've always found Dell monitors and laptop screens to be very good and this is no exception. This one was good enough to make my Mac-using son happy. As always, good communications from Scan and their courier and the monitor arrived exactly when stated. 05 January 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Beautifully clear and accurate colour rendition. I bought these monitors to use as a dual screen. They sit together very closely and give an almost seamless double screen. The image is very sharp and the monitors came individually calibrated. When displaying the same picture on each, there is no colour variation between them. 30 December 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Fantastic quality Superb screen quality. 0 back light bleed on my model very small amount of ips glow bottom left. The resolution at this form factor is nice any clear suits the screen size well. Calibrated out of the factory colors are astounding and jump out the screen at you. Mainly using it for Photoshop/gaming no problems so far. 11 December 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by A thing of beauty! This monitor is a thing of beauty! The resolution is about the highest I'd want to go on a 25" monitor, but is perfect for multi-tasking. 24 September 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Excelent monitor Beautiful quality of the screen, big size, very nice software (auto settings are awesome). Very nice stand, I love the way it works. I'm not playing in games, but for everything else - take this one. 02 September 2015

It is really annoying that manufacturers do not state this any more. I have found a few that are genuine matt screens (Samsungs - courtesy of Staples) but there is no way of doing this online if they do not state so.

Answer:
Hello

The panel uses a matte anti-glare screen surface, which we assume to be very light (‘semi-glossy’) like existing 2560 x 1440 IPS panels

Thanks

Answer:
Yes - is matt to semi-matt. It's definitely not a glossy screen like the ones you get on most consumer laptops these days.

It's definetly not glossy. It's matt but not in 100%. Much more matt than glossy. It's good anyway.

Can you get the full 2560x1440 resolution through HDMI?

I was wondering if you can get 2560x1440 @60Hz through the HDMI cable as I only have a GeForce GTX 750Ti which has HDMI, DVI and VGA.

Suitability for TV viewing

Hi - I'd be using this 50% for watching TV, DVDs & iplayer etc. I have a Dell monitor at work that looks washed out with videos - how would this compare? Would I be better off getting a small TV & using that as a PC monitor? Thanks....
