Choosing a monitor is not an easy decision to make, and not just because of the large number of variations in resolution, refresh rates, sizes and connectivity options. There are also varying panel technologies used to form each display that need to be considered. These panel technologies can be grouped into three broad categories which cover the vast majority of monitors sold in the consumer market.

G-SYNC works in a surprisingly simple way - it calculates how long the present frame takes to compute and then, crucially, varies the refresh rate of the monitor to match. It works between a minimum of 33.3ms (30fps) and the maximum supported refresh of the display. The key takeaway here is that the graphics card and monitor are both synced up to one another - the monitor doesn't have the limitations imposed by a rigid, fixed-rate scanning routine.

As you’ll all likely know by now, DVI is the current standard for connection of a PC or other display generator to a digital display output. Whether the broadcasters are going HD or not, TV sets and projectors are arriving thick and fast which claim to support higher resolutions than regular telly. But HDTV is far from just one standard – it incorporates a couple of different resolutions, two different scanning modes, and a number of different frame rates. In this article, we present a guide to what all the terms actually mean.

There’s a lot more to High Definition than just having the ability to run your screen at the right resolution. With more than one type of connection available, and the thorny subject of signal encryption to contend with, just because your monitor and graphics are capable of 1,920 x 1,080 or better does not necessarily mean they will be able to display HDTV in all its glory.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from First 144Hz Monitor and it's brilliant so far For the price it was a great purchase. Although this is my first 144Hz so I don't have much to compare it to. I am very happy with it, and I may even buy another to replace my old 60Hz that I'm using with this one. The colours are really good in my opinion, and like most Acer monitors, the build quality is one of the best. Would recommend.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Great gaming PC Great service from Scan as always The monitor is quite bright by default. I'd recommend using a malicious free tool call F.Lux to optimize the screen against the time of day. I am getting over 144hz on Fifa Around 100 on GTA and BF1 ^ this is dependent on your graphics card, so your experience maybe better.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great monitor This is a great monitor, I use it for PC and Xbox. Did have a small problem with scan though, 24 hours after receiving the product it wasn't working anymore. So arranged to send it back. Didn't want to wait an entire week to get it back so ordered a new one. A week later I revived an email to say that my monitor was working fine and to contact scan. Phoned them up to ask for a refund and apparently there was a scratch on it somewhere and they'd have to deduct 30% that's £60 and I only had the monitor for 24 hours

Questions & Answers

Is this monitor 144HZ?

Asked by: mattsg
Yes, as far as I know this monitor is 144Hz. I can select the option through Nvidia Control Panel using a DisplayPort cable. Also, I can tell a major difference between my old 60Hz monitor and this one. Hope that helps.

Which cables does this come with? also does it have VESA mounts?

Asked by: Stinger55LB
It comes with a DisplayPort cable but I would recommend getting a scan one with it, as it is a better quality cable than the one that ships with it. I'm not sure about the mount though. Hope this helps.
