PC monitor manufacturers tend to focus on a particular buzzword or acronym almost every year. In the past, we have been treated to HD (high definition), denoting the screen is capable of running a minimum 720p resolution.

Choosing a monitor is not an easy decision to make, and not just because of the large number of variations in resolution, refresh rates, sizes and connectivity options. There are also varying panel technologies used to form each display that need to be considered. These panel technologies can be grouped into three broad categories which cover the vast majority of monitors sold in the consumer market.

G-SYNC works in a surprisingly simple way - it calculates how long the present frame takes to compute and then, crucially, varies the refresh rate of the monitor to match. It works between a minimum of 33.3ms (30fps) and the maximum supported refresh of the display. The key takeaway here is that the graphics card and monitor are both synced up to one another - the monitor doesn't have the limitations imposed by a rigid, fixed-rate scanning routine.

Whether the broadcasters are going HD or not, TV sets and projectors are arriving thick and fast which claim to support higher resolutions than regular telly. But HDTV is far from just one standard – it incorporates a couple of different resolutions, two different scanning modes, and a number of different frame rates. In this article, we present a guide to what all the terms actually mean.

There’s a lot more to High Definition than just having the ability to run your screen at the right resolution. With more than one type of connection available, and the thorny subject of signal encryption to contend with, just because your monitor and graphics are capable of 1,920 x 1,080 or better does not necessarily mean they will be able to display HDTV in all its glory.

23" iiyama ProLite XU2390HS-B1 Monitor, IPS Panel, 1920x1080, 5ms, 250cd/m² Brightness, D-Sub/DVI/HDMI, Black is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 9.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice screen for the money Needed a screen for photo editing. The colours are good straight out of the box and the matt finish avoids unwanted reflections. The stand has no height adjustment, only tilt but it is reasonably sturdy. Built in speakers are tinny and only good for speech but I don't use them so this is not a problem but anyone intending to watch videos should consider buying separate speakers.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good cheap monitor, no bezel on left or right side makes for tidy multi monitor setups Good monitor, good value, ideal for multi monitor configs as no bezel on left or right (though image stops approx 1cm short of the edge, evidently).

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Not as good as described Description says it has ultra slim 6mm bezel. It's more like 12mm Almost as big as my old monitor. I thought it was like the dell monitor I saw recently which I liked a lot. However it has excellent picture as I would expect from iiyama, bought for a mini Mac - works well on HDMI. Had another problem with my old PC over 15pin D connector- it won't work though my KVM says input not supported! Will work direct from PC only. Why - can't find any explation on the rather poor website or online manual. However for the price I can live with it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice big screen, good colour reproduction, sharp and great value I think for the price (£150 including delivery) this is a great value monitor. The display is large, it has a nice thin border so you get the most out of the screen size. The base is firm and sturdy. The picture quality and overall build quality is great. It has a matt finish screen so if your taste is for the glossy screens this is not for you. Minor quibble would be the height, it's non-adjustable and the bottom of the screen is 7.5cms off the table. The top approx. 38.5cms from the table surface. So it's not that high up. Perhaps not ideal if you're quite tall. Summary: Bargain price for a screen with a nice big display.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Well worth the money and astonished how good it is. Ordered one day, delivered the next. Good service from Scan as always over the past 10 years. The monitor is used via a Toshiba laptop using an HDMI cable..separate purchase. Having first read the rather sparse instruction leaflet the stand base was attached which took 20 seconds & no it's not wobbly. Switched on and it just worked. A matte screen showing plenty of detail for amateur photographic work, and for everything else. The laptop screen is switched off via windows control panel and the brightness turned down a bit. Speakers work. Buttons are under the screen tho' only used the first time. Used for 5 days now, all pixels ok and no problems at all.

Can it be mounted on a ScanFX TS743A Triple Monitor Stand?

I'm upgrading my gaming system to a GTX 980 and 3 monitors, so I would like to know the aforementioned stand is suitable for it. Thank you in advance. Link:
Asked by: OliverRedick
Yes it has VESA mountings on the back But if you want a seamless picture across 3 monitors the Dell S2415H would be better.
