The modern PC is potentially a mass of heat output and heat production hot spots. With CPUs rated at more than 100W of heat output, single graphics boards carrying similar ratings (and people want to run two!), multiple hard drives the norm, lots of memory and mainboards covered in heatpipes to combat toasty core logic and PWM circuits, a PC appreciably warming up a room when it’s working hard is no joke.

Watercooling
Date Issued: 19th Jun 2008

Watercooling for the PC has been around for years in some form or another, for at least as long as Scan have been in business, with basic physics defining why you want to use it. That means for air cooling, to cope with increasing temperature in the heatsink you need to move the air across it faster. That is why thermostatically controlled fans in your PC will turn faster the hotter something gets.

Anybody who has been near their share of computer systems will appreciate that not all systems make the same amount of noise. There are a number of reasons for why this is so. Firstly, a computer makes noise for different reasons. Generally, anything mechanical is going to make noise.

120mm Corsair Air Series AF120 Performance Edition, High Airflow & Low Noise, 1650rpm, 63.47CFM, 30dB, 3-Pin, Twin Pack is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 6.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent fan at a good price! I was expecting these to be a little quieter, but really needed the higher air-flow for better cooling in a watercooling loop. The addition of extra coloured bezels is a great touch for those with colour customised rigs. If you need a quieter model then choose the one below this one with less RPM. Fortunately I don't really notice the noise and neither does anyone else in my videos so it's not a major issue. Great kit all said and done

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Unmatched performance If you're on a budget and looking for a mid end graphics card this card is highly recommended, especially with EVGA's wonderful overclock and wide range of utilities for squeezing every last inch of power out of the card.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great performance, nightmare to install These are arguably the best looking 120mm case fans on the market and the performance is superb! My one and only complaint about them is the rubber corner dampers that twist when you turn a screw in them making them an absolute nightmare to install or remove. A few of the dampers actually split when I was installing mine. 3/5 for value also because I could have got similar performing fans for cheaper and not had the installation nightmare.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Quiet but not as much as I expected. I was expecting them to be slightly quieter, they keep everything really cool though :-) WIN!

Questions & Answers

Recommended for Corsair H80?

Would these fans be recommended for use with the Corsair H80 cooler? I am looking for a pair of quality 120mm fans that have no LED's to replace the rather noisy fans that come with the H80 unit. If these fans are not recommended, can you recommend a pair that would be more suitable?
Asked by: Lukozer
If noise is a concern, go for less RPM for a lower dB rating :)
