Customer Reviews

3XS LG17 Performance GTX is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 4.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Pleased with my laptop Service from Scan was excellent, very friendly and efficient. The laptop itself is exactly what I wanted and works as I had hoped. I am not an expert but I enjoy the speed of this machine which allows me to edit my photographs wherever I am with the same features as I expect from my desktop at home.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fast solid gaming laptop, excellent value. I purchased the best laptop I could afford and this LG17 Performance GTX does not disappoint. It's well built, robust and speedy. I won't be using it for gaming so it's 1050TI graphics is plenty adequate for me. I opted for the nVME SSD and would definitely recommend it as it is extremely fast with my custom Linux OS. In fact it is a lot faster than my desktop at work. It can compile a kernel faster than anything I have ever owned, desktop or laptop. I was considering a Microsoft Surface Pro or an Alienware laptop, but when you compare the specification for the same money the 3XS systems are much much better value. I know gaming laptops are a lot bigger and heavier than a Surface, but that is not an issue for me. It's always going to be used at a desk, but at many desks, which is why I need portability of a laptop. Scan made me a custom build model in just over 2 days and the customer service was excellent. This is probably the best laptop I have ever owned and I would highly recommend it. The Performance GTX is considered a mid-range gaming laptop. I would love to experience a top of the range 3XS model!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A decent laptop with a few minor niggles I bought this laptop to replace a MacBook Pro that had died. I have a powerful Windows 10 PC for work and figured it was about time I checked to see what Windows laptops were like now. After a lot of research, I picked the 17" model over the 15" as I didn't need to use it while commuting. I'm writing this review on it now and have been using it daily for a month now. Here are my thoughts: It's pretty heavy. Mostly because of the 17" screen. I don't mind because I only use it from home at a table, but it's a bit too bulky to rest on your lap, and you definitely feel scared about putting it down carefully in case you may damage it. The screen is great. There is a pretty thick black plastic border around the edge, so definitely not as slick as a MBP, but it's bright, fast and the colours are wonderful. Very happy with this aspect of it. Performance-wise I'm happy too. Windows boots really fast, waking up from sleep mode is near instant. Apps load and perform well. You have to be careful with the built-in automatic GPU selection though. For example, it defaulted Chrome to use the Intel GPU, which gave shocking performance on websites and WebGL based content. Forcing Chrome to use the NVIDIA GPU fixed all of that. So if something runs poorly check it isn't using the Intel GPU. The keyboard is ok but not great. I would say it's my second biggest complaint against the laptop. The font used on the keys is a strange choice. I mean I'm a decades-old competent touch typist but even I need to refer to the keys now and again because they're so tightly packed together and the font doesn't help here. The keyboard layout is also poor. There's literally no extra space between the arrow keys and the numeric pad making it shocking easily to hit End or Insert instead of Up or Right. The keys feel nice, they're very low travel and I find it comfortable to type on but the tightness of the spacing between them all is annoying. On a plus point, the keyboard LEDs are great. You can configure them in 3 groups which all blend together, so it's as if the keyboard has just 3 big LEDs below it which you can tweak individually. The software provides some ridiculous defaults but you can save your own more sensible options too. My biggest complaint though is the trackpad. Even if I hadn't been spoilt by the beautiful responsiveness of the Mac trackpad I still would have been disappointed. It's slow and clunky at the best of times. Double-finger scrolling in apps like Chrome or even Notepad is jerky and erratic. I used to be able to happily use my MBP trackpad in apps like Photoshop and draw comfortably, but this one is terrible and I need to plug in a mouse just so I can avoid using it. I dread to think what it would be like for gaming. You can't press down on the keyboard to click, you have to use the two buttons below it which is a little cumbersome. It also has a tiny finger-print scanner between the two buttons which has about a 50/50 chance of working for Windows login, but it's handy all the same. The laptop will also decide to perform random notifications. I can often be sat there watching a video and it'll pop-up 'Touch Pad Off' for no reason what-so-ever in a large window in the top-left of the screen. I don't think this is a hardware issue, just a problem with some shoddy notification coding. All in all, I'm happy with my purchase. I was never expecting it to be as sleek as a MBP, and it isn't, the quality of the chassis just doesn't even come close. But Windows itself is fast, the GPU power is brilliant, the screen is bright and clear and if you plugin something to replace the dire trackpad it's a superb laptop to own.
