A Motherboard is one of the main pieces of hardware that make up a computer system. The Motherboard features the primary software that allows your system to boot up, known as the BIOS. The Motherboard contains the chipset, real time clock and provides the electrical interface for the other pieces of hardware to connect to. The central processing unit (CPU) connects directly onto this board. Other components which include hard drive, RAM memory, graphics and sound are attached to the Motherboard via specific connectors, such as PCI-e, SATA, along with other various headers for external interfaces such as eSATA, USB and Firewire. Some motherboards can have sound, graphics and other peripherals ready integrated on the board. The performance of a computer is dependent on the Motherboards chipset, which is what allows the CPU and connected hardware to work together as a computer system. Updated 31/05/11

Socket 1155 - Intel Z68

Designed for the 2nd generation Intel® Core™ socket 1155 processors. These motherboards are based on Intels Z68 Chipset. Features of this chipset include support for SATA III - 6 Gb/s and SATA II - 3 Gb/s, up to four DDR3 memory slots, up to fourteen USB ports, multiple PCI Express slots, Raid, Rapid Storage Technology, VGA, Smart Response Technology and High Definition Audio. The two main advantages of the Z68 chipset over the P67 is the support for VGA On Board and Smart Response Technology. Always check individual specifications of a motherboard as various mentioned features are not present on all Z68's. Note that these Z68 motherboards come in different form factors namely ATX, E-ATX and XL-ATX. Micro ATX Motherboards are listed seperately. (Updated 23/05/12)

These motherboards may require a BIOS update to support the Ivy Bridge processors
