Double / Dual Layer is a recordable disc providing 8.5GB capacity on a single side (2.6GB for 8cm discs). Compliant with the +RW Alliance (Double Layer) or DVD-Forum (Dual Layer) specifications. The double / dual layer of recording has been made possible by the creation of a new substrate layer that sits in between each recording layer. This allows the laser beam to record on both layers. Once the first layer has been recorded, the laser re-focused to record on the second layer.

Internal DVD writer drives for PC laptops / notebooks. These drives feature a SATA port for PC laptops with the SATA interface connectivity. As well as reading both CD and DVD's, these DVD writers will also write CD's. Note that there are two loading mechanisms available, Slot and Tray.

These DVD RW drives feature either Labelflash or Lightscribe technology. This allows you to laser etch labels/images onto the top side of the DVD. This works by first of all burning the data side of the DVD, then the DVD is turned over to then burn the design/image required using the DVD's software. A process also known as 'burn flip burn'. Note that these two technologies cannot be mixed for the label side burning. As in a Labelflash drive cannot burn a label onto a Labelscribe DVD and you cannot use a Labelscribe drive to burn a label onto a Labelflash DVD.
