Product Overview
Blu-ray is everywhere, quickly surpassing standard DVDs as the top choice for entertainment medium. Samsung offers the SE-506BB/TSBD Slim Portable USB Blu-ray Reader/Writer in white, a quick and efficient way to add Blu-ray reading and writing capabilities to your desktop or notebook PC. You can also connect it to your tablet computer or TV.
The drive attaches to the USB port on certain TVs and can be used as a standalone Blu-ray player. This AV connectivity does not work for every TV, and because of the restrictions of the format, it only works depending on whether the mode is supported by the connected device - and not like a DVD player. The supported media file formats are also determined by whether they are supported by the host AV device.
When used as a disc burner, it supports writing to BD-R Single, Dual, Triple and Quad Layer discs, DVD +/- RW Single and Dual Layer discs, and CD-R/RW discs. Access times for BD-ROM is 300ms, DVD-ROM 180ms and CD-ROM 170ms. With a 4MB data buffer, 3D playback capability, content upscaling and buffer underrun protection (protecting the disc when data transmission speed is not as fast as the data writing speed, resulting in "buffer underrun" errors when burning discs), it's a solid performer in its class of portable Blu-ray burners.
