Best drives I've bought, service from scan was good as always.
They were the only firm advertising Nasware 3 so thats why they got my business.

Installed 2 of these into a Synology DS214 play, no problems everything working as expected only time will tell if reliable.
Could be a bit cheaper in comparison to some (normal drives) these drive are labelled as NAS specific, but who knows if they are any different to non NAS drives.
Anyway they work fine so all good.

I was a little skeptical at first, but after install 4 of these HDDs into a Synology 411+II I'm glad that I brought them.
They run on average 2 degrees cooler than the old WS Green drives, that only lasted 2 years. These come with a 3 year warranty, so it's all good :)

Good price, good quality. Temps are slightly lower than my old 1 TB green (read those are very nasty and faulty too). Speed is okish, cannot compare to other 3 TB as i have none. Seems lot faster than my previouse one.
Just make sure u get 2 diffrent batch numbers for double secruity and ur good to go.

Rated 5 out of 5 by toastboy Working fine in my NAS
Working happily in the RAID 5 array in my server box. Time will tell how the reliability goes, but at least WD have an easy to use portal for registering the drives and raising an RMA if necessary.

Rated 5 out of 5 by MartinRabson WD RED 3TB excellent drive
I have three of these drives in my Hack Mac, two as alternating Time Machine drives and one as a general data store.
Quiet, cool, fast enough and solid WD quality.
There are some that arrive DOA just a % game as from most HDD manufacturers, but as usual Scan proved there customer service quality with a good clean RMA and refund.
Will buy more of these drives in the future! I mean 3TB for just over £100 with delivery and VAT, happy days!

Rated 5 out of 5 by Snapshot Current sweet spot in the WD Red range
What can one say about these drives that hasn't already been said? They're reliable, quiet, cool-running and currently the best price per TB in the range. I've had four of them on a Highpoint RAID controller running non-stop since last April and there hasn't been a single entry in the controller event log. Although they're not the fastest drives available, four of them in RAID5, even on a SATA II controller, will saturate a gigabit network connection so what more do you need? I don't like them as much as desktop drives and prefer the more expensive WD Blacks for this but for NAS use it's hard to find better.

Rated 3 out of 5 by pgale 1 out of 6 DOA
Although the description explicitly says that these are the older NAS Ware 2.0 drives, they are actually the newer NAS Ware 3.0 versions. I wish WD would change the part number for a change like this. Would make it much easier to work out which supplier has newer stock.
Unfortunately, one out of the six drives I ordered was DOA (wouldn't start up with head unlocking clicking noise). That seems fairly common so not sure about the reliability or quality of these drives - we will see. At least they have a 3 year warranty and I've returned several drives to WD over the years, having about 30 running here 24/7. return process has always been good.
Plan on running 6 of these in a Synology 8 bay DS1815+ with the NASWare 3.0 firmware, 8 drives are now supported rather than the 5 that's in the description (although there's nothing physically stopping you running as many as you like! - If you have the hardware)
