Product Overview Samsung were one of the first manufacturers to offer LED backlight screens and have now made it more widely available through their range. Key advantages to LED screens are slimmer depth and higher contrast. It can come as no surprise, then, to find the UE32d5000 has one of the best pictures in its class. Samsung has combined a number of technologies to make the UE32d5000 a class leader. In addition to the LED screen with its Mega Contrast ratio is Samsung's Wide Colour Enhancer Plus engine. This unique Samsung system is driven by Samsung's HyperReal Picture Engine and offers far more natural and convincing colours by strengthening the red, green and blues. Also standard is Clear Rate Motion 100. Although this isn't the same as 100Hz processing, it does claim to offer gains in motion clarity through measuring the chipset, TV panel and backlight. What is certain is that the UE32d5000 offers smooth motion free from the blur of some of its 50Hz rivals.

Although we'd recommend a separate hi-fi or AV system for the sound, the onboard sound is surprisingly good for such a thin TV with little apparent space for the speakers. SRS TheatreSound HD gives a well-balanced sound that's surprisingly weighty for a TV but also clear, too. With a 2 x 10 Watt amplifier on board there's also enough power for larger rooms.

Although lacking the Smart Hub of more expensive models, the UE32d5000 still comes very well equipped for its class. Allshare, powered by DLNA, lets you connect the TV up to your home network via Ethernet or optional Wi-Fi dongle. From here you can stream content from your PC or laptop, onto the big screen. Connect Share Movie teams up with the USB sockets to offer film, music or photos to be easily transferred from your digital media device to the TV's screen. In addition to the twin USB sockets there are also four HDMIs - perfect for even the most complex home cinema system. SCART, component and a very handy PC Input complete the package.

Thanks to the LED backlighting, the UE32d5000 has a depth of just 30mm. Combined with the Charcoal Black surround, this makes the UE32d5000 a very subtle and unobtrusive TV - especially if you choose to wall mount it.

For an LED TV, without the frills, the Samsung UE32d5000 is an impressive performer. Features Experience enhanced image detail, colour reproduction and control
Enjoy unprecedented picture quality with Samsung’s super-advanced imaging technology. The HyperReal Engine and LED backlight enhances images and optimises performance for crystal-clear HD images. And Wide Colour Enhancer Plus technology deploys complex algorithms to make colours more life-like, and reveal tones and hues otherwise invisible.

The ultimate home-base of entertainment
Supreme connectivity enables you to enjoy all your digital content and interactions in one place. AllShare lets you connect your TV wirelessly to all your compatible digital devices, unlocking the music, movies and photos stored there. AllShare PC software is also available for download and ensures that your PC content can be searched, streamed and played back on your TV. High Definition Multimedia Interface inputs allow you to directly connect up to four devices, providing you with much more to watch and share. For a theatre-like movie viewing experience, Cinema Black automatically adjusts the letterbox-effect lighting. And for super-convenience, the Anynet concentrates the functions of all your separate remotes into a single, stylish controller.

NVIDIA G-Sync
NVIDIA G-Sync
Date Issued: 17th Dec 2013

G-SYNC works in a surprisingly simple way - it calculates how long the present frame takes to compute and then, crucially, varies the refresh rate of the monitor to match. It works between a minimum of 33.3ms (30fps) and the maximum supported refresh of the display. The key takeaway here is that the graphics card and monitor are both synced up to one another - the monitor doesn't have the limitations imposed by a rigid, fixed-rate scanning routine.

There’s a lot more to High Definition than just having the ability to run your screen at the right resolution. With more than one type of connection available, and the thorny subject of signal encryption to contend with, just because your monitor and graphics are capable of 1,920 x 1,080 or better does not necessarily mean they will be able to display HDTV in all its glory.
