These hard drives are Advanced Format with a 4K Physical Sector size. They will not work with Windows 7 Backup but will with Windows 8 Backup. Otherwise they work just like any other drive with Windows 7. I use AOMEI Backupper which is very easy to use for full disk or scheduled file backups.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Gordon7k Very satisfactory external hard drive
So far, I have found this a very satisfactory drive. I chose a 2TB size to avoid potential difficulties with the larger sizes. I already have an earlier version of this Seagate drive and it has proved very reliable over the last 5 years. I use this new Seagate drive (USB3) in conjunction with two other external back-up drives, and there's no problem running them together. This arrangement allows me to back up my data (or create an image) first on one backup drive and then later on another--alternating between drives. (I use Macrium Reflect for backup)

Rated 5 out of 5 by Ktech For the price you can't go wrong
The drive is pretty quick, silent in operation and good value for money. It's early days for reliability, but going on past experience of Seagate drives, there shouldn't be a problem.

Rated 1 out of 5 by Jasz Doesnt work with windows backup!
During my backup on windows 7, I got an error message saying that the backup failed, this was due to an I/O error.
Searching around online for a solution, I found that this seems to be a common problem with the Seagate ext. hardrives and windows backup, this is because they are not compatible.
The drive is good quality however I would not recommend this drive if you are going to be using it for windows 7 backup.

Rated 5 out of 5 by NickR Excellent product
An excellent product, robust and great value for money. Small and easy to transport.
So far it's been reliable and I don't expect that to change as I have used older versions from the same company for years without problems.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Jerry An excellent capacity for the price
An excellent capacity for the price. Set up is quick and simple, literally plug in the power and the USB lead and the operating system picked it up quickly and efficiently (Windows 7 on a desktop and Windows 8 on a laptop) in a matter of seconds.
The drive appears quick and reliable so far.
Almost silent in operation.
What more can you ask for if you need to add additional storage that can also be transferred between machines.
Even my daughter will have trouble filling hers (I bought 2)

This drive is quiet but not the fastest on the market. I copied 70.9GB of various files in 26mins. There is one annoying thing which most manufacturers now seem to do. This is to create an autorun.inf which runs a setup.exe application. Luckily my anti virus stopped it. When I buy any USB disk I want to decide what I what to do. Saying all this I would still recommend this disk to anyone looking for a cheap USB3 drive
