HDMI Audio/Video Connectors >> HDMI Keeping in tandem with technological developments, audio/video connectors continue to evolve at a steady pace. Today, the most common digital connector comes in the form of HDMI and we're here to tell you what it is, what it does, and why you might need it. Read Further >> Graphics Card Outputs Guides >> Graphics Card Outputs Modern desktop computers and notebooks comprise of a CPU, motherboard, graphics, storage, and, usually an optical drive. Computers have a number of ports and sockets that enable the user to plug-in various peripherals such as a printer, USB mouse, or, perhaps most importantly of all, an Internet connection. Read Further >> Display Panel Types Monitors >> Display Panel Types Choosing a monitor is not an easy decision to make, and not just because of the large number of variations in resolution, refresh rates, sizes and connectivity options. There are also varying panel technologies used to form each display that need to be considered. These panel technologies can be grouped into three broad categories which cover the vast majority of monitors sold in the consumer market. Read Further >> DVI Monitors >> DVI As you’ll all likely know by now, DVI is the current standard for connection of a PC or other display generator to a digital display output. You’ll recognise the multi-pin connector and know that almost all modern LCD displays have the corresponding input connector, for feeding from your PC. But do you know how DVI works? This TekSpek seeks to teach you how. Read Further >> DVI/HDMI/HDCP Monitors >> DVI/HDMI/HDCP There’s a lot more to High Definition than just having the ability to run your screen at the right resolution. With more than one type of connection available, and the thorny subject of signal encryption to contend with, just because your monitor and graphics are capable of 1,920 x 1,080 or better does not necessarily mean they will be able to display HDTV in all its glory. Read Further >> HDTV 720/1080 Monitors >> HDTV 720/1080 Whether the broadcasters are going HD or not, TV sets and projectors are arriving thick and fast which claim to support higher resolutions than regular telly. But HDTV is far from just one standard – it incorporates a couple of different resolutions, two different scanning modes, and a number of different frame rates. In this article, we present a guide to what all the terms actually mean. Read Further >> LCD Monitors Monitors >> LCD Monitors Now shipping with all but the cheapest complete PCs are LCD monitors. Advances in display manufacturing and associated cost reductions with economies of scale have brought LCD monitors into the mainstream, shipping with budget systems that start at just £400. LCD monitors come in all shapes and sizes, have differing resolutions and inputs. The purpose of this TekSpek is to provide a basic understanding of how LCDs work, delineate their desirable features, and to offer basic buying advice. Read Further >> NVIDIA G-Sync Monitors >> NVIDIA G-Sync G-SYNC works in a surprisingly simple way - it calculates how long the present frame takes to compute and then, crucially, varies the refresh rate of the monitor to match. It works between a minimum of 33.3ms (30fps) and the maximum supported refresh of the display. The key takeaway here is that the graphics card and monitor are both synced up to one another - the monitor doesn't have the limitations imposed by a rigid, fixed-rate scanning routine. Rated 4.8 out of 5 by 4 reviewers.
Rated 5 out of 5 by Expensive for 24 inches...but worth it! For about the same price you can get a monitor with a much larger viewing area, which is probably what you should go for it you're predominantly using the monitor for games or video etc. However, if you do any serious graphic design or video editing and value quality, resolution, colour gamut and response, I think you would be pleased with this monitor. I use it for 3D graphic design (e.g. Maya, mental ray, photoshop, after effects / creative cloud etc) and before switching it on, I wondered if I'd paid too much; afterwards, however, I understood. Especially when running it side-by-side with my old monitor. Not sure what the future holds for Dell, but they make fine monitors. 09 July 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by On balance, probably the best all round No, it's not 27" and it's not "widescreen" as such as it has a slightly squarer resolution. And if you use it for real computing (work) that does make a small difference. I had a 27" top spec NEC for a few days. Sent it back - too wide, no extra top-bottom screen space, pointless and nearly a grand! Can't afford an Eizo and don't think the bottom end Eizos are sensible. That left only this Dell which they'll probably stop making now! But it is superb as a screen and the overall stand design is beautiful and effective. I have a ColorMunki profiler and the screen responded well to that; superb colour range. Just really, really good. Utterly recommended. 03 February 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Superb and accurate colours. High quality picture. This monitor is in a league above most ones you'll buy. Chances are you know about Adobe RGB gamut and so on if you're looking at this one. The difference in colour range is exceptional - difficult greeny-blues that looks washed out on other monitors spring out on the 2413. I dont' give it 5 star because: The 6500K setting is not accurate on mine - it's too cool - out by maybe 300k or more. I don't use it, so I'm not bothered. There is a slight purpling covering 2 cm bottom right corner - I've accepted this rightly or wrongly, but it's not really what I should have when paying double for a 'professional' monitor. I have seen this on another 2413, so it might be common. Harldy any backlight bleed (though has, of course, IPS glow in dark room, to be expected.) The factory set colour space sRGB and adobe RGB are pitch perfect. 18 September 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Met my expectations Wonderful colour range. Neat menu system. Like the USB ports. Added Dell sound bar which fits neatly and gives adequate audio for iplayer or YouTube. 10 August 2013
