Product Overview AOC-UG-i4 is a high performance 4-port Supermicro Universal I/O (UIO) Gigabit Ethernet LAN card based on Intel's 82571 chips. It interfaces with Supermicro UIO motherboard through a PCI Express UIO slot to maximize the I/O bandwidth of the multiple ports Gigabit Ethernet connectivity. The dedicated input/output connections of the PCI-e ensure priority performance on each port without bus-sharing. The AOC-UG-i4 improves performance especially in multi-processor systems by balancing network loads across multiple CPU and processing cores. Features • Dual Intel 82571 dual-port LAN chips
• PCI-e x8 interface through PLX PCI-e 8518
• Full-height half-length PCI-e x8 UIO card that is optimized for Super Micro's UIO motherboards and servers
• Four ports that maximize connectivity in small spaces through RJ45 connectors
• Dual LAN chips that ensure priority performance on each port without bus sharing
• Intel's I/OAT accelerates I/O with higher throughput and lower CPU utilization
• Virtualization provides the platform with port density required for virtualized environments
• Support Pre-boot Execution Environment (PXE) on Super Micro's UIO motherboards and servers
• Wake-On-LAN (WOL) support (Port A only)
• RoHS 6/6
• Intel PROSet Utility for Windows supported network teaming
• OS supported: Windows 2000/XP/2003, RedHat and SuSE Linux, Netware, FreeBSD

As a growing number of homes contain more than one computer, their users must find ways to network them. The primary purpose for creating a home network tends to be to provide Internet access to all computers within the house. There are other good reasons, however. These include enabling LAN gaming, data backups from one machine to another and the sharing of music within the home.
